Upcoming Signal Updates along Route 105 in Charleston, MO

Share Your Thoughts Aug. 10-24

SIKESTON—The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve two intersections along Route 105 in Charleston, Missouri. The updates include removing the signals at the intersection of Route 105 and Drake Street and replacing the signals at the intersection of Route 105 and Route 62.

  • Signal Removal at Route 105 and Drake Street Tentatively, the removal would occur in late August 2026. Since the initial installation of traffic signals in this location, traffic volumes have declined. This location does not currently meet criteria for a traffic signal. Following the removal of the traffic signals, traffic on Route 105 would be free flowing and a stop sign would be placed at Drake Street.
    • The project will include removal of the signal mast arms. Items such as the concrete bases, posts, highway lighting luminaires and the underground wiring/conduit would stay in place. The removed equipment would be stored at the local maintenance shed. By leaving a portion of the necessary equipment, MoDOT can reinstall the signal if traffic volumes increase.
  • Signal Replacement at Route 105 and Route 62 Tentatively, the project will be let in March 2027, with construction beginning as early as May 2027. As work is underway, motorists and pedestrians should anticipate lane closures and possible sidewalk closures. Construction will be underway for approximately two months.
    • This project also includes improving the sidewalks at each corner.

Maps, plans, and other information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation will be available for public inspection and copying at MoDOT’s Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.
